This theme was the key focus of attention of participants of the international conference that was held on August 11, 2017 in Tashkent.  The forum was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations, the UNDP Representative Office and the Office of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Tashkent.  Opening the forum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan A. Kamilov emphasized that the definition by the head of our state Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Central Asia as the main foreign policy priority is not just a declaration, but a conscious choice, a natural and sincere aspiration of Uzbekistan to establishment of good-neighborly, friendly, mutually beneficial relations with the closest neighbors.  Uzbekistan, having a common border with all the states of Central Asia, is objectively interested in turning the region into a zone of stability, sustainable development and good-neighborliness. Addressing all vital issues of the country’s development – from border security to equitable distribution of water resources are inextricably linked with the region. Economically prosperous, secure Central Asia is an absolute imperative for Uzbekistan. Any major regional projects in the spheres of transport, communication and energy cannot be realized without active interaction with the countries of the region, without ensuring a high level of their integration.

On August 8, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Jin Liqun, who is in our country on a working visit.  The head of our state sincerely congratulated the guest on the successful start of the bank’s operation – a new international financial institution designed to promote formation of modern and reliable infrastructure in the Asian continent.  The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, established in 2015 with headquarters in Beijing is actively participating in financing 17 investment projects in various countries of the world.

On August 3, 2017, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with representatives of the country’s creative intelligentsia. At the meeting, a detailed exchange of views took place on actual issues of development of the national culture, literature and art, ways of addressing them, important tasks facing creative unions and state organizations in this direction.  The meeting, which was held in the spirit of sincere and open dialogue, was attended by the heads of chambers of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Prime Minister, state advisers to the President, heads of complexes of the Cabinet of Ministers, ministries and departments, large companies and economic associations, banks, creative unions, leading mass media, cultural institutions, theaters and museums, prominent people in literature, art and culture, journalists. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, khokims of the regions and the city of Tashkent, heads of the territorial branches of the Ministry of culture, creative unions, cultural institutions at places, television and radio channels, newspapers and creative intelligentsia through a videoconference.

On July 11, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers – minister of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, who arrived in Tashkent on a working visit.  At the meeting, the head of our state expressed his deep respect and addressed words of welcome to the friendly Turkmen people and to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.  The dynamically developing and strengthening bilateral relations in political, trade-economic, transport-communication and cultural-humanitarian spheres were noted with great satisfaction.  It was emphasized that the first state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan in March of this year, working meetings in “Avaza” tourist zone and in the capital of Kazakhstan – Astana in May-June, as well as regular contacts between the leaders of the two countries brought cooperation of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to a qualitatively new level and ensuring practical implementation of provisions of the Treaty on strategic partnership. 
11.07.2017 | 12:17 Construction of the metro in Sergeli district is continuing at a dynamic pace
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with construction of the metro in Sergeli district.  Metro favorably differs from other types of public transport with its convenience, safety and speed. The first metro line, laid in Tashkent in 1977, had a length of 12,2 kilometers and consisted of 9 stations. Chilanzar, Uzbekistan and Yunusabad lines were laid during the development of Tashkent Metro. The total length of lines with 29 stations reached 39 kilometers.  As experts note, construction of the metro in Sergeli district is fraught with a number of difficulties. Therefore, the metro line will be laid above the ground, over the overpasses. 6 stations will be built along the Sergeli line, which will begin from “Olmazor” station of Chilanzar line.

24.06.2017 | 15:19 Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited a small industrial zone in the city of Fergana
The head of our state got acquainted with projects of organization of a small industrial zone in «Fargona mekhanika zavodi” LLC (Fergana mechanical plant), production of new products.  The total area of ​​ Fergana mechanical plant is 36,1 hectares, of which the production area is 9,9 hectares. Currently, the company produces 36 types of industrial products and 31 kinds of consumer goods, 330 people are employed.  A small industrial zone is being created here in order to provide entrepreneurs with preferential conditions for empty buildings and facilities of enterprise, expanding production of products competitive in domestic and foreign markets, creating new workplaces.  It is planned to produce 300 tons of antifreeze, 200 tons of liquid for washing windows, 10 thousand pieces of brake pads in the industrial zone per year. Full involvement of this project worth 38,5 billion sums is planned for the third quarter of 2018. 45 percent of the output will be exported.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has visited the Imam Bukhari memorial complex in Samarqand Region.  Speaking at the Astana summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) of 8-9 June, the Head of State said that the creation of an Imam Bukhari international scientific research centre in Samarqand would be an important step towards strengthening international and intercultural relations.  This new centre that is being created will serve to propagate Islamic culture and values, to protect young people from various alien ideas, to give them modern education and upbringing and to instil such feelings in the hearts of the younger generation as being worthy of their great ancestors.  Information about the general outline of the project of the research centre being built and a project of improvement work to be carried out around was presented to the President.

The Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states continued with a meeting in extended session, joined by representative of observer states and international organizations.  The meeting was held under the chairmanship of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.  President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the heads of delegations from observer states, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani, President of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, Foreign Affairs Minister of Iran Javad Zarif and SCO Secretary General Rashid Olimov participated in the meeting.

The Astana summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has concluded its work. Following the meeting of the Council of Heads of State, the Astana declaration has been adopted, which reflects the main directions of further developing practical interactions and pronounces a common endeavour to undertake maximum efforts for enhancing and deepening multilateral cooperation. At the meeting with the representatives of mass media, it was underlined that the summit meeting was productive, the signed documents will serve to further develop cooperation among the SCO member-states. The Heads of State, underscoring that the SCO summit was organized on a high level, expressed gratitude to the Kazakh side for a warm welcome and hospitality. The Astana summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has concluded its work.  Following the meeting of the Council of Heads of State, the Astana declaration has been adopted, which reflects the main directions of further developing practical interactions and pronounces a common endeavour to undertake maximum efforts for enhancing and deepening multilateral cooperation.

The Arab Islamic American Summit took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  Heads of member-states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the US, Secretary-Generals of the UN, the League of Arab States, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf attended the summit.  Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, welcoming the participants of the summit, underlined that their partaking has an important significance for increasing the prestige of this forum.  The forum is significant as it facilitates in confronting extremism and terrorism, promotion of the ideas of tolerance, strengthening security, stability and cooperation.  The agenda of the Arab Islamic American Summit includes issues of ensuring global peace and stability, joint countering against terrorism and violence. The attention of the summit participants was drawn towards preventing threats to peace, maintaining national and religious values and cultures of all nations.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the Islamic Development Bank Bandar Hajjar within the visit to Saudi Arabia.  Steady development of relations between Uzbekistan and the IDB, wide-scale cooperation of the parties in developing and implementing projects in social-economic areas was underlined at the meeting. Investments by the Islamic Development Bank in such spheres in Uzbekistan as healthcare, educations, irrigation, power industry, utilities, development of road infrastructure, support of small business are a vivid illustration of this.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has arrived in Saudi Arabia to attend the Arab Islamic American summit on 21 May 2017 in Riyadh at the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  An official meeting ceremony of the President of Uzbekistan took place. A guard of honour was lined up for the high-level guest.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has inspected the work of the “Abdugani Turdiboyevich” multi-functional farm in Mirzaobod Disrict.  In Sirdaryo Region, agriculture is developing consistently, and the ranks of multi-functional farms are growing. They are achieving high results in stock raising, poultry farming and fish farming. Projects being implemented by them help to raise the wellbeing of the population and to provide them with good quality food products.  The “Abdugani Turdiboyevich” multi-functional farm was established in the year 2014. 34 hectares of land is available to this farm. Of that cotton grows in 16 hectares, cereals in 15 hectares and soya beans in 3 hectares. As part of the implementation of a Presidential resolution dated 14 March 2017 on measures to increase areas sown with soya and to produce soya granules in the republic in the years 2017-2021, more than 2,200 farms in this country are sowing soya in 21 thousand hectares of land this year on the basis of agreements.  As a result, 33.7 thousand tonnes of soya beans, 6.1 thousand tonnes of vegetable oil and more than 25 thousand tonnes of soya protein will be produced.

A telephone conversation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took place on 1 May on mutual agreement.  The Heads of the two countries discussed the pace of implementation of the agreements and documents, reached and signed during the state visit to Turkmenistan on 6-7 March this year.  The parties underlined with deep satisfaction the intensification of bilateral contacts on a high level in political, trade-economic, transport-communications and cultural-humanitarian spheres.  At present, a full-scale implementation of commercial contracts and joint cooperation projects in the agro-industrial complex, on repairs and modernization of railway cars and other spheres are underway.

On 29 April President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited South Kazakhstan region and had a working meeting with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.  The cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have been developing in the spirit of good neighbourliness, fraternity and mutual respect. Mutual interactions have been reinvigorating in all spheres.  The state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan on 22-23 March 2017 has opened a new page in the cooperation of our countries. The important documents, signed following the negotiations and the agreed arrangements have been steadily implemented in life.  During the meeting in South Kazakhstan region, the process of realizing the agreements, reached between the two countries during the state visit of the President of our country to Kazakhstan in March this year, was discussed.

Today President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has laid flowers to the Unknown soldier memorial in Moscow.  This memorial has been installed to the memory of defenders of the Fatherland, who had died during the Second World War.

On 4 April President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Moscow on a state visit at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.  A guard of honor was lined up for the high-level guest at the Vnukuvo-2 airport, decorated with the state flags of the two countries. The Head of our state was greeted by the members of the Government of the Russian Federation.  Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin will discuss the issues of reinforcing strategic partnership and allied relations between Uzbekistan and Russia, prospects of developing the mutually beneficial cooperation in political, trade-economic, investment, transport-communications, scientific-technical, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres, will exchange views on regional and international problems.  A Joint declaration of the Presidents of the two states, over 50 documents, aimed at further developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia in various spheres are expected to be signed during the state visit.

 President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the mahalla named after Uvaysiy in Yunosobod district, reviewed the favourable conditions, created here for workers of the citizen's assembly, a prevention inspector and residents.   Mahalla citizens' assemblies have taken a solid place in the life of our society as a genuine method of people's self-government. They play an important role in implementing the tasks on ensuring a dialogue with people and human interests.   The state is creating necessary legal foundations and material-technical base so that the citizens’ self-governing bodies could effectively execute their functions. A new centre of the Uvaysiy mahalla is a vivid demonstration of this.   The mahalla predominantly contains multi-story residential apartment houses, where over 5400 people of different ethnicities live. New mahalla (community) centre helps people's rapprochement, further strengthening the atmosphere of friendship, harmony, kindness and mutual understanding.   The centre has separate rooms for a chairperson, a secretary, counsellors of the citizens' assembly and a prevention inspector. All rooms are equipped with modern ICT tools, furniture and corresponding literature. The room of the prevention inspector is equipped with a display to monitor the territory of the mahalla through a videolink.
